Lakshmi Energy and Foods Ltd. (LEAF) has taken a step towards creation of energy hubs at different location in Punjab, using the by product, husk as the fuel in replacement of conventional fule coal. Coal is transported from thousands of miles to fuel the power plants of Northern India. This captive biomass would bring about a new revolution of generation electricity. Till now the husk as well as straw are burnt away or used in few steam boilers. LEAF will utilize this resource gain fully for the company and the nation.
Husk has high calorific value, more than bagasse or any other agro waste. To harness this LEAF is setting up a power plant of 30 MW capacity. This plant will use 100% captive husk to generate 30 MW power. The power plant is going to be the first of the four plants company will install. Total generation capacity will be 105 MW in 3 to 4 years.
The Government of Punjab has already granted single window clearance to the company along with certain incentives. Both the State Government as well as the Central Government are very keen to set up such facilities in Punjab so that the objective of power from Non-conventional sources becomes a reality in Punjab.
